Meta playing the violin

I was born in Ontario, and have always been involved in music. My father was session bassist Richard Homme and his father The Friendly Giant, a recorder and clarinet player who had a long time running show on the CBC, inspiring children to play music and read books. My mother's father was a German violinist, who specialized in jazz and gypsy style classical music, in a style resembling that of Stephane Grappelli. I've always been immersed in music, and have sung and danced since infancy. My mother started me playing violin at age 4, and along my musical paths I picked up other instruments, obsessively practicing and playing in bands, recording and experimenting. My love for music runs deeply and that is why I enjoy teaching others. It never gets boring or old as it is like air to me. I enjoy meeting new students and working with them, while recognizing their natural, unique approaches and strengths.
I have taught music since the age of 16, in schools, Suzuki music camps, and at home. I graduated from the Royal Conservatory at 17, grade 10 with honours, and have also played in a variety of quartets, quintets, chamber groups, and orchestras.

Testimonials

"Meta is a wonderful person and a great music teacher. She is kind, friendly, and patient. She really listened to my interests and worked with me at a pace that suited my personal goals. I would highly recommend her as a teacher for students of any age. SHE'S GREAT OK. I LOVE HER." -Ellen Torrie

"I thought she was wonderful. She is patient and kind. Her technique made it so easy for me to learn quickly and she was so encouraging. It was an absolute joy being her student, she made learning fun!" -Kirsten Robinson

"I had the wonderful privilege of Meta's private violin lessons for a number of years during my adolescence. I had been playing violin already for a number of years before, but Meta made further learning so much fun! Her great experience with the instrument, and her personal enjoyment playing herself, contributed to lessons that were positive, effective, and so very enthusiastic. The violin is not an easy instrument to play, but with Meta, I looked forward to our lessons and laughter every week." -Tara Westermann
